Check your check! The first check of the semester is usually where we see the biggest problems.
Our
payscales went up as of July first. Administration failed to make this change in time for July checks for part-time and overload assignments. If you worked in July, the August check should include a retro, marked RET. Full-time base pay in July should have been correct, so full-timers won’t see a retro unless you worked overload in July.
For the August check, most assignments were paid at the correct rate. But for a few, the rates still hadn’t been updated. For those, you won’t have to wait for a retro. The retro was included in the August check itself, marked with the code PAJ.
Chaos, cuts, and schedule changes always cause pay problems. Last-minute assignments may not appear on this paycheck. Last week, administration told us not to worry, it would all be on the September check. We pushed back, asking instead for a off-cycle check for everyone who is owed money. We have not yet received a response. But even if they don’t agree to automatically run an off-cycle check, you still have the right to your correct pay. If the college owes you money, and you need it urgently, you can still receive an off-cycle check if you request it.
If your pay is wrong, immediately report it to your chair or coordinator, and also fill out
this form. It will send the information to the payroll department and also to AFT. If you were underpaid and need the money immediately, tell them. When you talk to your chair, and when you fill out the form, please state clearly that you need the money and you require an off-cycle check.
