Candidates Statements and Pro/Con Arguments for ballot initiatives
Due date for candidate statements or pro/con statements: Friday, April 6,  2018, by 5:00 p.m. Email to: aft@aft2121.org with cc to:  AFT Secretary Marco Mojica at mmojica@aft2121.org.

  1. Rules for Candidate Statements for AFT 2121 General Election
Each candidate is entitled to a statement to be included in the mailing out of the ballots to the membership by electronic URL link. We will also post them at the AFT 2121 website in the Elections section. The statement should be in clearly readable form and sent to the AFT office electronically as an email attachment. Email to aft@aft2121.org or to Marco Mojica, Secretary, at mmojica@aft2121.org.

    1. Each statement is limited to 100 words except for presidential candidates, for whom 150 words are allowed.
    2. A “word” for this purpose is a single letter or digit, or a group of letters or digits, preceded and followed by a space or other separating device used in lieu of a space. The hyphen, when used in its normal or usual grammatically correct manner, will be considered as an interior part of a single word: e.g., “forty-one” is one word; “I-shall-try” is three words. Names shall count as words. Each name (i.e., first, middle and last) is a separate word whether within the statement or as an endorser.
    3. If a statement goes beyond the limit and if time permits, then there shall be an attempt to notify the writer of the statement. If the Election Commission is unable to reach the writer of the statement or if no change is forthcoming before the deadline, then the statement shall be cut off at the maximum number of words.
  2. Pro or con statements for ballot initiatives to amend AFT 2121 Constitution/Bylaws

The statement should be in clearly readable form and sent to the AFT office electronically as an email attachment. Email to aft@aft2121.org or to Marco Mojica, Secretary, at mmojica@aft2121.org. We will provide the electronic URL link to pro/con statements for members to read online. They can also be accessed at the AFT 2121 website in the 2018 Officers Election section.

Nominations for Executive Board: Officers, Reps-at-Large, and Delegates
Nominations for all Officer, Executive Board, Labor Council and AFT Convention delegate and Precinct Rep positions must be:

  • submitted to the AFT office by Friday, March 16, 2018, or
  • made from the floor of our AFT 2121 General Membership meeting at the Ocean Campus in MUB #140 on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, from 3:00-5:00pm.

Four officer positions: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary, as well as six additional Executive Board At-Large representatives will also be chosen in this election. Additionally, delegates to the AFT Convention and to the S.F. Labor Council are elected. To nominate someone for one of these positions, please fill out the Officer/Executive Board nomination form and submit it to our union office by Friday, March 16, 2018.

Nominations for Precinct Representative (Delegate)
Your Union has been working to improve representation for rank and file members at our Delegate Assembly, the democratic decision-making body for AFT 2121.

Our hard-working delegates (Precinct Reps) have brought your voice to our monthly meetings. As you consider nominating someone for our upcoming leadership elections, please consult the list of faculty by last name to check your current precinct number and find out who is eligible to run for leadership. Then check the list of faculty by precinct number. Here you can see a list of faculty who are members of the union in each precinct and thus eligible to serve as officers or reps. If your name does not appear on this list, you may not yet be an official member of our union. Please fill out the AFT 2121 membership form and submit it to the AFT office by Tuesday, March 20, 2018, in order to be eligible to run and/or vote in the leadership election.

We encourage you to think about the person you turn to in your department or area. That person might be a great rep. Or maybe you would like to serve. Either way, fill out this precinct rep nomination form and return it to our union office by Friday, March 16, 2018, to be included on the official ballot.
