(Wed. 3/14) 17 Minute Walkout

March 14 is the one-month anniversary of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida and Women’s March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, school administrators, parents and allies to take part in a#NationalSchoolWalkout for 17 minutes at 10am across every time zone on March 14, 2018. Each minute of the walk out is dedicated to one of the 17 victims at the Florida Parkland High School shooting.

  • Today, our AFT 2121 Executive Board passed a resolution supporting the student walk-out.
  • Chancellor Rocha distributed this statement last week supporting the action.

The California Federation of Teachers Executive Board and AFT 2121 are in unanimous support of this action. Tomorrow join us in saying #ENOUGH!

(Wed. 3/14) AFT 2121 to present initial salary proposal

TomorrowWednesday, March 14, 2018, AFT will be presenting its initial salary and workload proposal to the District during the open negotiations session between 1:30 and 5:00 p.m. All faculty are welcome to attend the session in MUB 238.

With the vacancies in District financial personnel only recently filled, the District has yet to identify key budget information. However, rather than wait any longer, the AFT bargaining team has decided to push forward with its demands to clarify our position as to what is needed to achieve the District’s and Union’s goal of bringing faculty salaries above the median of Bay Ten community colleges and to establish more equitable workloads at CCSF.

In the coming weeks, we will grapple with:

  • the District’s budget deficit, caused by the drastic loss of apportionment dollars due to accreditation enrollment declines and the loss of stabilization funding;
  • the build-up of a large CCSF Fund Balance to offset the loss in State funding;
  • the increase in student enrollment since Free City, and the new revenues from this growth;
  • prioritizing salary and workload improvements in light of the decline in faculty salaries and the affordability crisis in the S.F. Bay Area.

(Wed. 3/14, Thurs. 3/15 & Wed. 3/21) College for All tabling

Grievance news

  • Resolution: as reported earlier, the announcement for a permanent EOPS Program Director is finally going out and will be retained as a faculty/Dept Chair position, a win for EOPS faculty.
  • AFT is awaiting District response to our demand to provide copies of Title 5 complaints to the Union when representing faculty being interviewed.
  • Categorical employees: AFT challenging District’s current and prospective employment of full-time faculty with SSSP or student health service fees on a categorical basis even though this is ongoing funding (SSSP) or a mandated service (student health).
  • AFT is challenging the District’s failure to provide information or its rationale in the Vocational Nursing program regarding hours and scheduling, e.g. its failure to apply the 50-minute instructional hour to clinical assignments, assignment requests, e.g. to subject areas 43 vs. 41, and workload of VOCN faculty in violation of State regs and the contract.

AFT 2121 Leadership Elections

Every 2 years, we elect faculty who are members in good standing of our union to positions of leadership. Nominations for all Officer, Executive Board, Labor Council and AFT Convention delegate and Precinct Rep positions must be:

  • submitted to the AFT office by Friday, March 16, 2018or
  • made from the floor of our AFT 2121 General Membership meeting at the Ocean Campus in MUB #140 on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, from 3:00-5:00pm.
