Dear Colleagues,
By now, you are aware of the cuts that the administration has proposed and that the board of trustees voted on last Thursday. We’re still trying to get answers from the administration about the details of these cuts. These cuts only appear to make sense as part of a plan to cut the college to the bone. These cuts are devastating and unacceptable.
Early this week, our union’s Bargaining Team sent the district a demand to bargain over the impacts of the cuts. We are waiting for the district’s response. We could be at the table as soon as this Friday, March 5.
While we will still go through the regular contract bargaining process to negotiate our current contract which expires June 30, the team has decided to focus on impacts first. Impacts bargaining is limited to the impacts of the cuts and possible mitigation of those impacts. Anything we negotiate will be temporary, not written into our contract.
As with contract bargaining, our union’s team is committed to transparency and democracy during the impact bargaining process. The bargaining team is also committed to organizing with all faculty. We encourage and invite members to come to our open bargaining sessions. Please stay tuned for zoom links.
Be sure to join us on Friday, March 12 for the Defend our City College Pink
Slip Action and Press Conference. RSVP here.
