AFT is at the table in two separate tracks of bargaining. On Mondays, we bargain over economic issues, working for a restoration of salaries. Every other Thursday, we bargain about workplace safety and COVID impacts.
For economic bargaining on Monday 10/25, the District team didn’t show up. Some of that was unavoidable. Power was out at the house of one of their team members. Their chief negotiator was held up at a meeting with the BOT. However, they left faculty waiting for an hour, only to then suggest the session be rescheduled.
We sent the District team the information we would have presented, and we expect a response next Monday, 11/1. Much appreciation to everyone who came and waited through this latest example of administrative failure.
In our safety and return-to-campus bargaining, there was real progress.
Starting November 8, all employees will be required to prove vaccination or have an exemption in order to enter CCSF buildings. Upload your vaccination info here or request an exemption here. Even if you don’t think you’ll be on campus right away, we encourage everyone to upload your information. You might find yourself needing to sub or otherwise be present in-person, and it can take up to 10 days for the system to verify your information.
The “building monitor” situation will improve as well. Many college employees have stepped up and volunteered as building monitors in this crisis. That has kept us running. We now have a formal agreement: These positions will be assigned and paid. Building monitors may be faculty or classified, but either way they will be paid, have specifically assigned times, and not simultaneously have other CCSF work assignments. No more interrupting class to let students in.
We hope that this will also make building access easier for vaccinated employees. With building monitors in place, we should be able to get to our offices and other facilities.
Administration’s goal for all of these changes is November 8. We understand that it might not all be in place all at once.
There are many more moving pieces to make sure our return to campus is safe for everyone. Come to open bargaining!
