(11/16) Committee on Political Education (COPE) and Delegate Assembly next Tuesday 11/16!

All AFT 2121 members are invited to participate in your Committee on Political Education (COPE) and Delegate Assembly (DA) meetings Tuesday, November 16, from 1:30-3:00pm (COPE) and 3-5pm (DA).

Committee on Political Education, Tuesday, 11/16 from 1:30-3pm
At this month’s COPE meeting, you will consider a potential endorsement for a California State Assemblymember in AD 17.

Delegate Assembly, Tuesday, 11/16 from 3-5pm
This month’s delegate assembly will be a little different from normal. We have two important items to cover: the academic calendar and our organizing campaign. Instead of using meeting time for reports, we’ll send reports out as email blasts ahead of time, and just get right to work in the meeting. If members want more time, we’ll keep the zoom room open after the meeting for discussion.

More information about the academic calendar is below, including a survey link to let the DA know your priorities and ideas about the calendar. DA agenda attached.

To attend either of these meetings, follow this link from your computer or smartphone OR call 1-669-900-6833 then follow the prompts to enter the meeting ID #810 1671 8065 and password: 783119.

(11/16) Drafting an Academic Calendar counter proposal at the next Delegate Assembly

Every year, administration creates a draft calendar for the following academic year. Last month, at your General Membership meeting, faculty voted to reject administration’s calendar proposal. Instead, members directed Delegates to craft a counter-proposal at the upcoming 11/16 meeting. Please fill out this survey to let your delegates know your concerns and ideas about the calendar! This is your schedule so you should have a say over it.

Some things to notice about the administration’s draft calendar:

  • Fall: First flex day Friday Aug 12th. Last day Monday December 19th
  • Fall mid-semester flex: Tuesday Oct. 12 (That’s Indigenous People’s Day, but the State of California currently does not let us take that day off.)
  • Spring: First flex day Thursday Jan. 11th. Last day Tuesday May 23rd
  • Spring mid-semester flex: Tuesday March 7th.
  • There is one less instructional day in each semester. Instead, administration has added one more professional flex day.

That proposal is not the last word! You have the opportunity to craft a counter-proposal and negotiate for a better calendar–that starts by filling out your academic calendar survey (link here) and participating in your Delegate Assembly.

  • Please fill out this survey to let our delegates know your concerns and ideas about the calendar! We will close the survey Sunday night 11/14, so we have results for our DA meeting Tuesday 11/16.
  • Here is administration’s draft calendar.
  • Here are some of the considerations for the academic calendar. (It was written before the 10/19 General Membership meeting, so it says we’re going to take a vote. That vote already happened; we decided that the DA should craft a counter-proposal.)

(12/24) January medical premiums: December 24th deadline

Many part-time faculty face unemployment and loss of benefits. We received a confusing letter recently from HR about this. Here is what you need to know.

• If you currently have medical insurance through CCSF, that insurance automatically continues through January 31.

• For faculty who must pay for the January premium, the deadline is December 24th. We recommend getting your payment in earlier. We don’t know when they will be in the office receiving mail, especially that last week.
